Bastian Killjoy is a Melbourne based hip hop producer and emcee who combines driving hip hop beats with acoustic drum breaks and steel string guitar, providing a unique and intricate backdrop for his superior and fierce vocal style that combines intelligent lyrics and tackles social issues with a fast paced rhythmic flow. This results in a sound that is truly unique within the Australian Hip Hop scene.

Slamadingdong titled Bastian Killjoy slam poetry champ for June 2013, he has also recently been hailed Global Hip Hop Collective’s artist of the month for January 2014, with the successful launch and release of his latest EP “Earth – Air – Fire – Water” in December of 2013.

Salome Mc started making hip-hop music as an art school freshman in 2002, in Tehran. Pursuing her passion for poetry, music and visual arts in different levels ever since, releasing songs online -while being recognised as the first female rapper of Iran- and experimenting with different mediums of visual expression that goes along.

Salome moved to Japan to further study in the field of audio/visual arts, exploring new ways of expression that would reflect her new life style: away from urban life and closer to nature. Now in addition to making music for urban listener, Salome tries to create a connection incorporating sound, photo and/or video in form of contemporary art with a universal audience.

WE FLOAT

This song is from my release “Painted Landscape”. My beliefs held and expressed in this song may be very conflicting and controversial to some people, but I do try to express that differing ideologies should be taken with an open mind. I decided to incorporate the alphabet in this track to push my lyrical ability to it’s limits. I know this idea has been done before but I wanted to present it in an all new way. When I wrote this song I honestly though it would bring some attention to what I am doing, nether the less it has assisted in my growth and development as an artist. So whats it all about?

Well I believe we are descended from aliens, to be more precise the Annunaki, a civilisation which date back to the  Sumerians. I believe I channel inter-dimensional beings when I make music or feed creativity. So I was thinking, if I was to send a message to other beings in the universe or other dimensions about Earth, what would I say? I would speak about our history, which has a very dark past, the beauties of humanity and everything in between. I would greet them with love and compassion. I would send a message of hope and unity across the galaxy. For this is what I already believe I am doing. Actions are motivated by intention, my intentions are to interact and send a higher vibration to this planet, it’s people and beyond, and I would try to let go of ego and the negativity that hinders progress in order to achieve my goal.

I am not an atheist or anti religion, I believe in spirituality and that the physical body is just a vessel to carry us through the part of this journey, quantum physics has a lot of answers to our questions. It is fair to say our governments have lied to us and plan to destroy this planet for the gain of power over the people. That they have rejected every attempt for world peace and the desertion of fossil fuels, that there is a monopoly over natural resources. Where money takes president over life and freedom.

I believe it is my duty to speak out about these problems and address possible solutions. We have the power to change this world, to save ourselves and to learn something along the way. I speak for peace, I ask for unity. That is why I am sending you this message.

Love

NUMBERS

Screen Shot 2014-03-28 at 3.53.43 pmMost days I wonder how our focus strays
Walking stained footpaths, passing change
Each step closer to parting ways
Bumping with nothing to hold
Say something

A city full of strays, kids, thugs with blades
Drugs, rape, mugged, end up on the front page
Racial hate, people displaced, evil set in its place
And waits patiently for many are weak

Speak to me, I hear the whispers, here to teach
Heal the needs from cracked dreams
Fractured beings who wont believe
Regardless of my pleads
So I walk on

Words fall on deaf ears so I lost most my peers
Younger years, wonder how we got here
Lost, everything comes at a cost, it’s not clear
So I perceiver

Dear friends and family, I’m getting there gradually
Almost at my door, counting numbers, haphazardly
With a cautionary step, get to 20, take a breath
Now I can finally rest

HAPPY FACES

HAPPY FACESThis week, speech is worthless
To speak it aches, you feed the surface
Cracks from miss guided smiles
I want purpose but I deserve this
Nervous, words are working

Try to shake this insurgence
Life urges, furthers from here
Remotes to trigger burdens
Closer to disturbing fear

Constantly reoccurring when you murder beats
Appear certain, devout and determined
Hear the squeaks from undermining versions
Expression, depressed convergence
Watch you while it worsens

I hold this for me, stories to stretch the ease
Poured out through versus, endless as they leave
Mouths chatter, smiles are pleads
Of how much this means to me

Happy faces are often waisted
From trying to remain complacent
Refrain from days of hatred
Shits outdated, over rated
I make music, it’s complicated

So we hold high, with happy faces

CREATURE COMFORTS

Asiulus-illustration-4Climbing through, time collapses narratives
Refined, subdued, this accents our challenges
Lies weep, we wept, deceitful regrets
Pens pressed to exemplify distress

Unrest, broken homes, fallen nest
Wages set to place your bet
Who will fall behind first or tow the line
Immersed, rolls reverse, empty conquests

Grasps at dirt , honours test, how it hurts
Now sour, bursts, devour power, purge
cowards walk in shadows, hers
Echoes, echo disturbed

We like flicks of paper, in those little pictures
takers, simple, naked, make it visual
To inebriate the wishful, ways of thinking
Hit you, hating, crippled patience

While patients sit knitting frameless fits
Life attracts me to this
Now i’m nameless

MOMENTS

1176891249376286Hold close, moments awoke indifference
Potent rose, spoken, dimmers as it withers
Coldest winter, erodes, aroused distance
We deal to cope, hope the clouds steer us

Suppose a single light, lit in spite persists
See’s the different side of things inside, resistance
We hide in dark shadows, life narrows as we gather
Time in passing, believe as if it matters

Look around, people drowning shroud the dead
thoughts collect, supports rejected instead
Side step without method, as our mother wept
Steady hand, mouth of madness
Love abandoned

Escape to tangents, corporate false flags
Talks of rapid expansion, collapsing, branded
Lives are taken at random…
Or did they plan it?

Seeds planted, commandments, desperate
Dealing sadness, division, nations ravished

These seem like broad statements
Instead I scribble strokes across the pavement
Defy lies for life has no replacement
Evil here is faceless as are the famous

I think it’s time we made some changes

Global Hip Hop Collective – Artist of the Month

GHCWelcome to 2014. It has been a busy start to the new year and very welcomed indeed. I have been hailed Global Hip Hop Collective’s artist of the month for January! I am very proud of this achievement and thankful that I am reaching you out there. So just after I released my new EP “Earth – Air – Fire – Water” on Christmas Day, I got a call from Zulu Flow telling me I was nominated for GHC artist of the month. To say I was excited is an understatement. We got together a couple of weeks ago and had an interview, which you can check out by clicking the photo.

There are so many new projects I am working on this year and this just gave me the boost I needed to push harder than ever to have my voice heard, and to make positive change where possible in the Hip Hop community.

The good people at GHC also reviewed my new EP.

“Self produced, written, published and recorded, Bastian Killjoy nails all aspects on this release. Originally written as a film score, then experimented on by laying down some hip hop beats and eventually evolving into a five track EP.  Mixed and mastered at Heezers in Missouri the finished sound is super clean without being too much so. Crisp beats, intelligent lyrics delivered with swift viciousness and complimented with a hint of welcome warmness. The depth of the content as well as the music means that one listen is nowhere near enough to really ‘get’ each song. Each of the four elements are cryptically, not literally represented, which allows one to delve deeper into the meaning behind each song. The production contains just the right mixture of soul, boom bap and melody to remain interesting, get my head softly swaying back and forth and my ear sharply tuned into the lyrics.

Overall I didn’t rate this release super highly at first. However after multiple listens it grew on me. One of the highlights was the song “Fire,” which begins with the sounds of a crackling fire place, then is accompanied by some orchestral strings and transitions smoothly into the most structurally and sonically pleasing joint on the release. Another highlight was the three minute instrumental-lude at the end of the first track. A refreshing point of difference that allows the music to speak for itself.

An element which feels missing from the mix is ‘fun’ – the entire vibe of the release is quite serious and sombre, which is where the track ‘Fire’ shines above the rest, being the one track that combines this fun factor while remaining sentimental, no nonsense, to-the-point and cryptic all at the same time. Earth, Air, Fire, Water is a valiant contribution, musical food for the thinking man.”

FREE EP – “Earth – Air – Fire – Water”

FREE EPSo over the last few months, as we have been flying towards Christmas and the new year, I realized I would not have much money to buy loved one’s presents. So instead of stressing myself out, I decided to release a new EP “Earth – Air – Fire – Water” as a FREE download.

So I got a few copies printed up for close friends and my family and put the release up for you guys to grab. I don’t have much but this is what I offer.

If you are reading this thank you for all your support and love, it really keeps me going. Now about this EP, I wrote this originally as a film score composition and then decided to write lyrics to the songs. The names of the songs represent the elements of earth as a whole.

This is a time of spiritual awakening, we are united, we seek for peace. Be happy today, even if it is a day of reflection. Be safe and happy and know we are together. I am not religious, well not in the traditional sense but I think if we can put one day aside in the year to share and be completely selfless, then that’s a start in the right direction. I look forward to the journey that next year brings for both you and I.

Let Go

249616_1577032564039_1782380451_979438_6356017_n_Gouache_1

I thought perhaps in a parody
I’d meet calamity Jane
Climbed up that tree collecting composure in frames
Just as I gained aim
The branch snapped
I can’t remember her name
Awoke in a new place favored by danger and fate
Painted in an age and I found a mate
Asked her how can we survive?
Wait ride the pain, collide, revive yourself to come here again
This is a dazed, delusional confused mood as usual
But while I’m in the moment I think its time to make it beautiful
Shoot through different plains of perception
Till I find one I like
Take flight with direction
Ease the tension, complete beliefs to strengthen
Leave perfection, an aggression inside
Concrete the method of life
Then reach arms out, stretched complimenting the sky

So let them go
Let them leave
Let them know what they need
Let me float
Let them speak
Let us grow
Let me be
Let us breath through the hatred
Greet life with patience
Never wonder why
Or if we even made this

To the furthest of reaches
The ones that mean to leave you speechless
Hurts but teaches humility
Love you to pieces
A part of the whole
The picture that needs us
Leaders a needless
Deceit leaves favor leads to enable
The crazed, deranged stables
Unstable, well maybe I am
Certainly from the cross over’s that cut broken hands
What are your demands?
The question flutters through my brain
On a day I cant remember that stifled my pain
Polite I won’t change, not even on a new day
Then the song remains the same, you’ll be destined to do this again
Shame reigns down from clouds to its people
Down and out sad clowns speak to crowds many spiteful and evil
Evil things, please try to let go for the people you know
Jokers are all pushing for shows
I’m sick of clones competing for something they don’t own
So I go, I pray I might be able to come home

So let them go
Let them leave
Let them know what they need
Let me float
Let them speak
Let us grow
Let me be
Let us breath through the hatred
Greet life with patience
Never wonder why
Or if we even made this

Here are some photos from last weekend’s show taken by the amazing Flutterby. I was very proud to be a part of this show in one of Melbourne’s finest venues. I ended up playing 2 shows this night. We had NJE’s album Launch in Fitzroy. Great vibes all round as I was joined on stage by my partners Emjay and Vytal One of Social Commontree. We shot some footage of this night too, which I will put up later in the week. Great times with the best of company!

New EP – “Earth, Air, Fire, Water”

New EP - Earth, Air, Fire, Water

This Christmas I will be releasing my EP “Earth, Air, Fire, Water”. Although this EP contains only 5 tracks, there is a running time of 25 minutes. I wanted to make this release more of a film score based around the elements rather than focusing on Hip Hop. Its always hard at Christmas time to afford presents for everyone, so I thought why not put this one up as a free download!
I will be printing limited copies of this EP (50) but I will not be re pressing any after that. If you would like a hard copy please feel free to get in contact with me, they will be $10 each. I have had a lot of people asking me lately why I am putting up new releases so close together and the simple answer is; I need to get this off my chest. Projects become stale for me when left too long and I have so much work to do with recording other artists and running a record label, that I just wanted to get this out, after that I can move on to whatever comes next. Now in my 30’s I feel that it is more important than ever to express how I feel about what is really going on around me than it is to entertain others. I really do hope I continue to keep making music for my whole life. Keep your mind fresh by feeding your spirit.
I will have updates on this EP coming up. So stay tuned. Earth, Air, Fire, Water will be available for free download via Bandcamp. Click photo for link.

Salome MC – I Officially Exist

A few months ago I was cruising around with the radio on, I was listening to local PBS. They generally play great local and international music on there, but one song stood out as I was listening, I turned it up and was taken on a journey of musical energy, I couldn’t pick up the language (which intrigued me even more).

As the presenter came back on air she said “That was Salome MC from Iran”. I kept saying her name in my head until I got home so I would remember it. After 30 attempts at spelling her name into Google, I got it and while on her Soundcloud I found her most recent album “I Officially Exist”.

Salome Mc is an Iranian Hip hop and multi-media artist. She has released three Hip Hop albums online, along with a string of self-made music videos, and gained recognition as the first female rapper of Iran. She added experimental audio/visual productions to her field of work after moving to Japan, and had various performances, Exhibitions and screenings in different countries. Right now she is a master’s student in fine arts in Japan.

It is rare that I find such spiritually, in tune, pure Hip Hop and Salome’s work is nothing short of inspiring. I listened to the whole album and was hooked. Here is an artist that has stood up against the powers that divide nations and openly speaks about the deceit of religious institutions. Salome’s story and powerful message will move you. If you want change here it is.

So I hit up Salome, I explained how I found her music and how I would like to work with her. Now we are collaborating on a song together! You can expect something by the end of the year. If you want to listen to Salome MC’s music click the photo for a link.
