Hip Hop artist Bastian Killjoy has set upon a new journey this year with the announcement of his 4th full length album release ‘Golly Gosh’, due for arrival on July 21st 2016.
The rapturous Melbourne based producer/ emcee has modelled his latest works around his earliest Hip Hop, Rap and R&B influences, many being from the early 90’s. With production styles that recognise artists of the 70’s and 80’s, in a time when musician’s recorded/ produced and mixed their albums, utilising their own skills. Which is precisely what Bastian has done with his latest masterpiece ‘Golly Gosh’ entirely produced by himself.
“I have produced all my other albums, to an extent, but have always got to a point where I have needed help from others to complete the project. This time around I have placed a lot of importance on the album belonging to me, I believe it is my most lyrical and personal work to date. After many painstaking months of hard work, I think it’s paid off”. – B. K
From the inspiration of intrigue and true artistry, come the untold workings of Hip Hop enthusiast and architect, Bastian Killjoy.

As the production of my album ‘Golly Gosh’ winds up, and I come to the surface to take a breath. I have come to the realisation that I haven’t shared any new music with you this year. As you may have seen last week, I shared an album teaser trailer (Watch here). Now I am proud to share with you my debut single from this release ‘Creep’!
‘Creep’ serves as a footnote to the rest of ‘Golly Gosh’. As an illustration of how the creative process of making music has been rapidly changing for me, examining my place in the music industry, how I see things happening around me. And how money has a tendency to change people in the Hip Hop game.
This song delivers as an ode & reminder to thank and pay homage to those who have come before us. In particular I have made reference to a couple of my greatest inspirations Ms Lauren Hill & TLC. Its not often I site other artists in my works, but this time I felt it was relevant.
I am eagerly waiting an album release date for ‘Golly Gosh’ but for now here’s something to warm your appetite.‘Creep’ is now available for download/ streaming via
Album will be available through – Rising Tide Records, Bandcamp, iTunes and all other reputable outlets. Album release date TBA 2016.
Did I hear new music?? Thats right! Just hours ago my latest music video for my latest single ‘The Voynich Manus‘ went live on Youtube! + streaming/ downloading here
I am really happy to be able to share this song & accompanying video with you. It feels like more than a year ago since I released my album ‘Sides Of Me‘, with your help, but it has only been 10 months since then. A lot has changed and evolved with my music and the creative process during this time. I’m not sure where I am heading, but it is certainly away from where I was before and that means growth.
‘The Voynich Manus’ is really an interpretive piece on today, 2015. the things happening around us, our reactions, your reaction. How we see the world and how the world might see us back, on a level we often undermine and neglect, on a mindful level. What do we really know about who we are in proportion to the whole/ and that is why I called this song The Voynich Manus(cript). I hope people will find understanding in my intentions and put meaning to my madness. If not, the tune is pretty fly.
You can stream or download ‘The Voynich Manus’ for free HERE. I will have more details on my forthcoming album as we head over to the new year. Wishing you all a very happy and safe holiday season!
As a big thank you to all of you who supported my Pozible campaign earlier in the year, Bass Estrada and I have released a new EP for FREE! I wanted to give something back to you guys for making my last album possible. So It is that we present to you ‘The You & Me EP’
Beyond the great divides of sea and continents, emerges an archaic collaboration of epic measures. As Australian artist Bastian Killjoy and Russian Hip Hop producer Bass Estrada announce the release of their EP ‘The You & Me EP’ which arrived on Thursday the 18th.
It’s no secret that rising Melbourne emcee, Bastian Killjoy has been making waves with his insightful, mind-bending lyricism. We now see Bastian ordained to explore uncharted terrain, with Bass Estrada’s mood shifting, ambient sound scapes, challenging Bastian’s lyrical ability every step of the way. As the pair unite to bring to the world their notable and visionary masterpiece ‘The You & Me EP’.
Throughout this journey of elaborate arrangements, and perfectly balanced sounds, it is evident that the duo jells flawlessly. Performing a balancing act of polyphonic unification that is rarely seen in today’s world of Hip Hop.
‘The You & Me EP’ is now available for free digital download via Bandcamp.
Upon the release of my album ‘Sides Of Me’ a couple of months ago, I was unsure as to whether I wanted to share these new songs on a live platform, that is performing them to an audience.
There is an abstract fragment of electronic soundscapes, mixed in with acoustic drums through most of the songs from the release and to tell you the truth I am not totally convinced that this is what a crowd wants to see live.
Maybe it doesn’t make sense, maybe i’m too far out there. Or maybe this just belongs at home while your stoned in your lounge room on a Friday night. Who knows.
Nevertheless I have played a few of these new songs live, a few times, to a few people. And they seemed to enjoy them, so Bron Flutterby recorded a video of one of my “favourite” songs ‘All Over’ live to share with you.
You who I do not know and who does not know me, you the music enthusiast that was able to find this in the infinite internet. Where some things are lost and people choose brush over importance for short term gratification or stimulation.
So if we are going to get into this and I am going to share this with you, then I will say this song is written in reference to pioneering Sci-Fi films. That is the sound I was aiming to achieve. The lyrics are about how far my spirit has come to awaken at this point in time. But this is a fragment of the whole story, how could I express and expose so much of myself in just under 3 minutes? I couldn’t, and that is why the album ‘Sides Of Me’ is my story of who I am, why I am here, what is happening around me, my intentions, obsessions, love all of it. Summed up in one album, that is to say where I have been and where I am now. My previous albums and EP’s attempt to explain the rest.
I am proud to be a part of this great event, which is happening tomorrow night at The Reverence Hotel in Footscray! This event will feature some of the most talented local artists around, all while raising much needed funds and attention for a good cause- White Ribbon.

As we are thrust into the new year I have much to reflect upon and many thanks to to give. Thanks to those who have supported me and guided me through this journey, It is because of these people that we have arrived here. 3 months ago I launched a crowd funding campaign in order to raise the funds to release my next album ‘Sides Of Me’. If we are to talk about stepping out of comfort zones and entering the realm of the unknown, then this campaign would be my best example.
I was initially hesitant to ask people to pre order an album that I had not finished recording. But as the support flooded in, I soon came to see I was doing the right thing. The creative direction I was going in soon shifted and this album became as much about sharing with others as it did about getting my message out there. The result is something I am very proud and excited to share with the world.
I’m not sure what genre ‘Sides Of Me’ falls under, It is really a reflection of my favourite genres, stylings and artists, and takes a lot from my childhood in the 80’s growing up. The album does have a more uplifting although sentimental undertone than my other releases, which are more focused on my frustrations and beliefs. This album symbolises my return to a stage of reflection and mindfulness.
‘Sides Of Me’ will be available on vinyl, CD and in digital stores on February 26th. To everyone who has pre ordered a copy of this album, your shipment will be arriving via post on the 26th of February also. To all pledgers who ordered digital copies of my previous albums/ EP’s, these have been sent to you via email. So be sure to jump on there and grab your prize!

On Friday the 12th of December, as my Pozible campaign was in it’s final stages, I was frantically refreshing my page to see if we would end up reaching our target, and we did! We ended up raising 105% of our total and I can now finish getting the album ‘Sides Of Me’ mixed & mastered and press it on vinyl and CD for you guys. This has only been made possible with your support. Words cannot express my feelings right now.
When I started this campaign I wasn’t sure if I would go ahead. But here we are, this journey has taught me many things about myself and other people. We need more faith, to believe in each other. My heart is full right now. You have made my dreams reality.
I received the first test vinyl for ‘Sides Of Me’ last week and once we head into the new year I will then order copies on vinyl, t shirts, CD’s and posters to be ready after the Christmas break. Everything will then be packaged and sent off to you by mid February 2015.
If you have purchased digital copies of previous works they will be sent out via email early January 2015 via email.
It’s been over 9 years ago that I started Bastian Killjoy and nothing happens over night. I still have a long way to go in achieving all my goals as an artist but this is a big step towards them becoming reality. I think next year is going to be a big year and I have lot of new music to bring you all.
I will send you updates as things are being finalised and ready to send to you, so keep checking those emails.
For those of you who missed the deadline for pre orders, don’t worry, I will still be taking orders for vinyl and CD until January 2015. If you would like to pre order a copy of my album ‘Sides Of Me’ then please complete the contact form below and I will get the details straight to you.
Hello to everyone out there, welcome to this weeks update on my Pozible campaign. We are already 3 weeks in and time is flying by. I’m trying to keep creative on these updates, so I thought I would do something different. I have also laid ‘Entitlement’ over the video, so I suppose you could look at this as a music video. Speaking of which, we are currently shooting a film clip for the next single. I don’t have an exact arrival time on this yet, but I can tell you it will be released within the next month before the campaign winds up in December.
So far we are making great steed on finishing this album. I only have 3 more songs to write/ compose/ record and then everything will be sent off to U.S based producer Tim Hanson at North Village Recordings, for mixing and mastering. I have had some great feedback on ‘Entitlement’ the single I released last week. Things have really changed since my last EP release in December. I knew while I was writing ‘Earth, Air, Fire, Water‘ that I was in a transition and now things are really evolving for me musically.
I have especially had fun so far writing the songs which pledgers have asked to be named after them. I set 3 of these rewards on my campaign ‘To have a song named after you’ and all 3 have already been purchased. I have been careful when writing these songs to not write about the person but rather from a distant point of view looking into peoples lives, emotions, things we really all share including intrinsic values. I have also just finished up the second international collaboration on this album with U.S artist EMFB. I released the first collaboration in May of this year ‘Road To Nothing’ with famed Iranian artist Salome Mc.
So far on our campaign we have reached over $2,100 in pledges! Thank you to all my amazing supporters out there. This really is only possible with you and I am honoured to share this momentous event with you all. This work will inevitably become yours as much as mine as we travel together. If you would like to get involved in my Pozible campaign or just hear my story then follow me here.
If you would like to join my mailing list for more direct updates on my music then follow me here. I will be back next week with more developments, for now I thank you, bless

Last week was a big week with the release of my new single ‘Entitlement’ Which was released on Friday as a thank you to pledgers. I will have more new music for you before this campaign finishes. I am also hoping to release a film clip along the way.

My new single has arrived! This song is taken from the album ‘Sides Of Me’. I am currently running a Pozible campaign to help me release this album. I have put this song up as a thank you to all the people who have supported my project so far. We kicked this campaign off 11 days ago and have reached over 32% of the funds needed!
All pledgers have been sent a personal download of this song. For the general public it is available for streaming via Soundcloud. I wrote this song in regards to peoples sense of entitlement in Australia and abroad. I am touching on racism here, our disconnection from our planet and surroundings, and the idea that one person or a group of people could have a feeling of ownership over nature and where we inhabit is preposterous. This also relates to governments and their borders.
People seeking refuge deserve help and aid. Indigenous Australians deserve more respect for their land and heritage, and our children, tomorrows future deserve better. This is relative in too many other parts of the world. We are slipping further and further into decay, all sense of decency and democracy has been washed away by our blood soaked beaches. I speak for sustainability, I fight for the human spirit to rise and takes its place among the stars. I seek change.
I enjoy sharing my thoughts and ideals with you. I do this not from a personal point of view in my beliefs, but it is more a collective oversee of what is happening from a spiritual view. If someone who didn’t live on Earth is watching us then how would we look? This is sometimes an embarrassing and uncomfortable thought, but one that needs addressing. We can do better.

If you have just joined me, then welcome! As some of you will know I launched my crowd funding campaign just 6 days ago to assist me in releasing my next album ‘Sides Of Me’. There has been so much support from people out there, that I wanted to give something back. So I am releasing another single from the album as a token of my appreciation.

“So many people will tell you ”no”, and you need to find something you believe in so hard that you just smile and tell them ”watch me”. Learn to take rejection as motivation to prove people wrong. Be unstoppable. Refuse to give up, no matter what. It’s the best skill you can ever learn.”

I wrote this song about what is happening in Syria right now, It is so sad that we are still supporting western cultures to plunder these countries for oil. where does it end? Anyway this is my thoughts on the subject and more broadly what is happening around us everyday.
I thought perhaps in a parody
I’d meet calamity Jane
Climbed up that tree collecting composure in frames
Just as I gained aim
The branch snapped
I can’t remember her name
Awoke in a new place favored by danger and fate
Painted in an age and I found a mate
Asked her how can we survive?
Wait ride the pain, collide, revive yourself to come here again
This is a dazed, delusional confused mood as usual
But while I’m in the moment I think its time to make it beautiful
Shoot through different plains of perception
Till I find one I like
Take flight with direction
Ease the tension, complete beliefs to strengthen
Leave perfection, an aggression inside
Concrete the method of life
Then reach arms out, stretched complimenting the sky
So let them go
Let them leave
Let them know what they need
Let me float
Let them speak
Let us grow
Let me be
Let us breath through the hatred
Greet life with patience
Never wonder why
Or if we even made this
To the furthest of reaches
The ones that mean to leave you speechless
Hurts but teaches humility
Love you to pieces
A part of the whole
The picture that needs us
Leaders a needless
Deceit leaves favor leads to enable
The crazed, deranged stables
Unstable, well maybe I am
Certainly from the cross over’s that cut broken hands
What are your demands?
The question flutters through my brain
On a day I cant remember that stifled my pain
Polite I won’t change, not even on a new day
Then the song remains the same, you’ll be destined to do this again
Shame reigns down from clouds to its people
Down and out sad clowns speak to crowds many spiteful and evil
Evil things, please try to let go for the people you know
Jokers are all pushing for shows
I’m sick of clones competing for something they don’t own
So I go, I pray I might be able to come home
So let them go
Let them leave
Let them know what they need
Let me float
Let them speak
Let us grow
Let me be
Let us breath through the hatred
Greet life with patience
Never wonder why
Or if we even made this
This Christmas I will be releasing my EP “Earth, Air, Fire, Water”. Although this EP contains only 5 tracks, there is a running time of 25 minutes. I wanted to make this release more of a film score based around the elements rather than focusing on Hip Hop. Its always hard at Christmas time to afford presents for everyone, so I thought why not put this one up as a free download!
I will be printing limited copies of this EP (50) but I will not be re pressing any after that. If you would like a hard copy please feel free to get in contact with me, they will be $10 each. I have had a lot of people asking me lately why I am putting up new releases so close together and the simple answer is; I need to get this off my chest. Projects become stale for me when left too long and I have so much work to do with recording other artists and running a record label, that I just wanted to get this out, after that I can move on to whatever comes next. Now in my 30’s I feel that it is more important than ever to express how I feel about what is really going on around me than it is to entertain others. I really do hope I continue to keep making music for my whole life. Keep your mind fresh by feeding your spirit.
I will have updates on this EP coming up. So stay tuned. Earth, Air, Fire, Water will be available for free download via Bandcamp. Click photo for link.
